WORK IN CANADA

Foreign workers contribute greatly to the Canadian economy and many opportunities are available to them. Different types of work permits exist, depending on different needs and occupations.

LMIA

Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a system used in Canada to find out the impact of hiring a foreign worker on Canadian job market. It is required by a Canadian employer who wishes to hire a foreign worker. Such an employer must procure the LMIA before proceeding to hire the foreign worker.


PGWP

Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) is an open work permit that allows international graduates from eligible Canadian educational institutions to work as a full-time worker in Canada. It helps accumulate the valuable Canadian work experience, eventually paving way for Canadian permanent residency under Express Entry – Canadian Experience Class category.


Spousal Open Work Permits

Spouses of certain foreign nationals are eligible to apply for an open work permit. Such foreign nationals include skilled workers (NOC 0, A or B) who have been approved to work in Canada for atleast 6 months, as well as foreign nationals holding study permit in Canada. An open work permit allows the holder to work anywhere in Canada for any employer.
